Kickboxing king Superbon elated to return to his Muay Thai roots: “It's more technical and more fun”
ONE interim featherweight kickboxing world champion Superbon returned to his roots of Muay Thai in his most recent match and raved about his newfound appreciation for it.
The Thai superstar was in action in the headlining contest of ONE Friday Fights 81 on Sept. 27 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. He took on and defeated 'Smokin' Jo Nattawut by way of knockout in the opening round.
It was Superbon's second Muay Thai match in ONE Championship following his debut clash in December last year, which saw him take featherweight Muay Thai world champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai to the limit but lose by majority decision.
Following his victory at ONE Friday Fights 81, the 34-year-old Pattalung, Thailand native talked about his forays in Muay Thai under the ONE banner, saying:
"I have won a fight at Muay Thai before. I have been fighting Muay Thai since six years old until like, I'm 24. So my Muay Thai is my ground [base]. Like, I love to come back to fight in Muay Thai because, you know, Muay Thai is more technical than kickboxing. It's more like, you need to think about it. You need to focus on it because it's more technical and more fun in Muay Thai."
Superbon at his best against Jo Nattawut in ONE Friday Fights 81 headliner
Superbon was impressive in his return to Muay Thai at ONE Friday Fights 81 on Sept. 27 in Thailand. He never allowed opponent Jo Nattawut to get his game fully going, finishing the match in the opening round.
The Thai superstar came out exactly knew he wanted to do. He opened with his vaunted kicks before landing a counter elbow to the head that busted Nattawut open.
Sensing that he had 'Smokin' Jo reeling from the elbow, the Bangkok-based fighter followed it up with another one that sent the former to the canvas. The referee gave Nattawut a 10-count, which he was unable to answer, leading to the fight to be stopped altogether from there.
With the win, Superbon is looking to earn another shot at the featherweight Muay Thai world title against reigning champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai.
