"Learn to control your power" - Striking technician Superbon shares how to maintain balance when throwing a knee strike
Interim ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion Superbon is just as graceful as he is powerful. Every strike that the 33-year-old Thai superstar throws is a thing of beauty and a sight to behold.
Superbon, who's known for generously sharing his textbook techniques online, recently gave some pointers on how to properly land a vicious knee strike to the body.
ONE Championship recently shared the clip with the caption:
"Learn to control your power from the best."
As seen in the brief but extremely informative video, Superbon demonstrated the challenges of executing the knee strike. For starters, it means lifting one leg off the ground, leaving you off-balanced and vulnerable to sharp counters.
But instead of lunging forward and putting full weight on the lead leg, the Thai technician delivered it from an upright position. He also made sure to slightly elevate the heels of his left leg to maximize the strike's full power.
Superbon's version also has little to no wind-up, making it extremely effective and less predictable.
For sure, those sneaky knees to the body will eventually take their toll on any opponent. If timed perfectly, it can even land on an opponent's chin if he dips.
Meanwhile, gems like this are what make Superbon one of the most beloved superstars in the striking world today.
Superbon continues to work hard after unsatisfying win over Marat Grigorian
Superbon regained 26 pounds of gold anew when he beat up rival Marat Grigorian across five rounds to claim the interim featherweight kickboxing throne at ONE Friday Fights 58 last April.
While he's happy to call himself a champion once more, the Superbon Traning Camp star admits he wanted a more decisive ending to his rivalry with the Armenian.
He told ONE Championship in an earlier interview:
"I am very happy to win the championship. But there are some things that I feel like I couldn't do 100 percent in the fight. Even though I did win it [winning the world title], I'm not 100 percent proud."
