"That's the first time that I didn't like a person" - Leon Edwards recalls the beginning of his rivalry with Jorge Masvidal
Leon Edwards joined UFC commentator John Gooden to break down UFC 280, which takes place this weekend in Abu Dhabi.
'Rocky' and Gooden analyzed the co-main event between Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw, and highlighted the trash-talk that took place between them. Edwards said that the bad blood makes the fight exciting to watch, and that the contest should be a close affair.
Gooden then referred to a never-seen-before interview between 'Rocky' and Jorge Masvidal, which featured plenty of trash-talk between the two. The UFC commentator then asked the welterweight champion to elaborate on his experience with 'Gamebred'.
Edwards said this:
"I think that's the first time that I didn't like a person [that I was fighting]. It comes natural to me when you don't like somebody. But I think it's draining to do a camp and also entertain the conversation you know."

Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal were involved in an infamous scuffle at UFC London in 2019. 'Gamebred' was conducting an interview after his KO victory over Darren Till when 'Rocky' walked past and the pair exchanged words.
Things escalated quickly, and Masvidal landed three quick punches to the face of Edwards. The pair are yet to settle their beef.
Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal trade jabs over Twitter
Leon Edwards was recently called out by Jorge Masvidal during an interview with Mike Heck of MMA Fighting.
'Gamebred' began discussing a future opponent, and with Edwards being the current champion, Masvidal used their beef to call out the welterweight king. He did not mince his words:
"I don't know what it is, he doesn't want to lose in England again to me. He's ignoring my phone calls. Every time I talk to a reporter, they're talking about this. Why ain't they talking about something else? Always talking about me against Leon in England. Leon, f***ing step up to the plate bro."

Leon Edwards responded with a tweet:
"refer to me as “Mr Edwards" or "Sir" and get on your knees and beg and I may consider it"

Without hesitation, Masvidal came back at 'Rocky' with the following:
"I’ve never gotten on my knees and begged anyone for anything. If your lifestyle is to get on your knees for stuff that’s on you, I’m not judging. Accept the fight, get this payday, get your rematch and get your face broken at the same time. It’s a no brainer dummy"
