"Less aggression and more fight IQ" - Regian Eersel highlights his route to victory in Alexis Nicolas world title rematch
ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion Regian Eersel believes he cannot solely rely on his trademark weapons to undo Alexis Nicolas a ONE Fight Night 25. The Surinamese warrior thinks he'll need a bit of intelligence, too.
'The Immortal' seeks to pull one back against the Frenchman in the headline attraction of the promotion's latest American primetime spectacle inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, this Friday, October 4. They collide for Nicolas' ONE lightweight kickboxing world title.
After seeing his eight-year, 22-fight win streak taken away from him by what he describes as a timid effort from his opposite number, the Sityodtong Amsterdam man is ready to unleash hell and return to winning ways in this upcoming fixture.
Revealing his path to victory, Regian Eersel told ONE Championship exclusively in a pre-fight interview:
"My mindset is still the same. All true. I have to be smart at [breaking him down] this time. So I think a little bit less aggression and more fight IQ this time."
"I ruled the division" - Regian Eersel ready to remind Alexis Nicolas who's the real boss on October 4
Apart from wanting to level their rivalry to one apiece, the 31-year-old is fired up to reclaim his 26 pounds of gold and put his name back amongst the two-sport world champions in the promotion.
Regian Eersel enjoyed a perfect 10-0 promotional slate before his clash against Nicolas at ONE Fight Night 21. And though he eventually lost his kickboxing gold in the process, 'The Immortal' still believes there's only one true divisional king in the lightweight divisions in Muay Thai and kickboxing.
In the same interview, the ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion continued:
"This match is very important for my career right now. Because if I win this match, I will claim the kickboxing belt again, and I will become the kickboxing champion again. And I'll show the world, and also the division, that there is only one champ - and that's me. So yeah, I ruled the division for five or six years."
ONE Fight Night 25 will be available to active Amazon Prime Video subscribers in North America live and free in U.S. primetime this Friday, October 4.
