“Liam doesn’t have to be sad” - Superlek says ‘amazing role model’ Liam Harrison has plenty to cherish from glorious career
Newly minted two-sport ONE world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 doesn't think Liam Harrison has anything to be sad about.
Return to the Circle on Friday at ONE 168: Denver inside Ball Arena, 'The Hitman' came up short against Thai sensation Seksan Or Kwanmuang in his first fight in more than two years. Sadly, it would also end up being his last.
Moments after going down in the second round of their instant classic, Harrison announced his retirement from the sport after more than two decades of dominance.
Superlek, who secured one of the biggest wins of his Muay Thai career in The Mile High City, offered his take on Harrison's retirement from the art of eight limbs, telling Nick Atkins:
"Liam doesn't have to be sad. He is an absolute legend and an amazing role model and an example for future fighters of the sport."
Harrison ends his illustrious career with 90 career victories with 44 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
Is it time for Superlek to run it back with Rodtang following ONE 168: Denver?
While Liam Harrison's Denver debut didn't go according to plan, things couldn't have gone better for Superlek who landed a brilliantly-timed elbow to claim the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship.
'The Kicking Machine' sent Jonathan Haggerty crashing to the canvas less than a minute into their main event meeting, bringing an end to their bout and solidifying himself as one of the pound-for-pound greatest strikers on the planet.
What comes next for 'The Kicking Machine' remains to be seen, but after seeing his dominant performance in The Centennial State, ONE flyweight Muay Thai titleholder Rodtang Jitmuangnon is itching to run it back with Superlek inside the Circle.
On being asked about a potential rematch between the two by Sportskeeda, Rodtang said:
"It's a matter of time. I've always been ready."
Superlek snapped Rodtang's unbeaten streak last September at ONE Friday Fights 34 in Bangkok.
