Lightweight Muay Thai world champion Regian Eersel says he can handle himself in an MMA fight: "I have a little bit knowledge"
Regian Eersel may not religiously practice mixed martial arts but believes he can more than hold his own if push comes to shove.
The reigning ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion is indeed one of the most dangerous strikers in the world today.
To round up his full arsenal, Eersel even trained some grappling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu a few years back during the pandemic.
The Surinamese star's full focus is to regain his lightweight kickboxing crown. For now, at least.
However, Eersel says he's not closing doors on a possible MMA transition in the near future.
In an appearance on MMA UK's YouTube channel, 'The Immortal' said he won't be a sitting duck when it comes to grappling.
"Yeah, I have a little bit knowledge. A little bit. Like white belt knowledge. If I spar in MMA, I can secure myself, and defend myself probably."
As intrigued as we all are to see Eersel take his talents to MMA, he still has some unfinished business to handle.
The Sityodtong Amsterdam guy will run it back against the man who took away his lightweight kickboxing world title, Alexis Nicolas, at ONE Fight Night 25 on Oct. 4 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
ONE Fight Night 25: Nicolas vs Eersel II will air live in US Primetime free of charge for Prime Video subscribers in North America.
Regian Eersel admits MMA crossover intrigues him
It's a fact that Regian Eersel's divine striking will make him an immediate threat against any 170-pound MMA fighter.
Turns out, thoughts of crossing over have been in 'The Immortal's mind for quite some time now.
The lightweight Muay Thai champ said in the same interview:
"Sometimes I watch MMA fights, and I'm thinking, like, this guy's striker, he doesn't do takedowns, and, yeah, it's practically almost a kickboxing match. And I'm like, if I get guys like this in a cage, I would destroy them."
