When Alexa Grasso scripted history at UFC 285

Alexa Grasso is currently ranked No. 1 in the women's flyweight rankings after losing her flyweight title to Valentina Shevchenko. However, the Mexican fighter scripted history in her first meeting with Shevchenko.

Grasso challenged Shevchenko at UFC 285 for the flyweight title. 'Bullet' entered the bout as a massive favorite riding on a nine-fight winning streak. To everyone's surprise, Grasso clutched Shevchenko in a face crank forcing her to tap in the fourth round.

With the win, Grasso etched her name in history books for becoming the first Mexican woman to win a UFC championship:

"Alexa Grasso is the first Mexican woman to become UFC champion."

Grasso squared off against 'Bullet' in a rematch in 2023 on Mexican Independence Day but the bout ended as a split draw. A year later, the duo locked horns in a trilogy at UFC 306 where Shevchenko defeated Grasso via unanimous decision to become the flyweight champion yet again.
