“Make my name clean” - Jarred Brooks eyes Gustavo Balart win to prove himself anew in ONE Championship
Jarred Brooks, the former ONE strawweight MMA world champion, vows to clear his name from any doubts in the world's largest martial arts organization.
'The Monkey God' lost his belt after a controversial result in his first title defense against Filipino star and the current ONE world champion Joshua Pacio, and the American wrestler is ready to redeem himself.
Proven to be the best by wreaking havoc in the strawweight division, Brooks plans not only to return to the winners' circle by defeating Cuban wrestling star Gustavo Balart but also to claim the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title.
Ahead of their main event tilt at ONE Fight Night 24 on Aug. 2 inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium, Brooks shared some thoughts on his hard work to kickstart the second reign as a ONE world champion. Speaking to Sportskeeda MMA in an exclusive interview, he said:
"Yeah, beating Balart would be a good redemption for me to make my name clean in ONE Championship and MMA again. I’ve been working on doing exactly what you said, the training, the mindset, and everything."
Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action on ONE Fight Night 24 live and free in U.S. primetime with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Jarred Brooks' dream is to lock horns with Demetrious Johnson
Jarred Brooks wants to fight only the absolute best MMA fighters, and for now, none can top the legendary GOAT Demetrious Johnson.
But first, Brooks has to prove his worth by claiming the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title when facing Gustavo Balart in the main event of ONE Fight Night 24 on Aug. 2.
Because of that reason, he sends a message to Johnson in the same interview with Sportskeeda MMA:
"Yeah. If whoever wants to lay this to Demetrious, I wanna tell him, ‘Man, I have a dream in my life. And I’m sure you had a dream in your life one time. But my dream is to go against the best of all time - you. And if I can beat you I can. If not, I will be proud to say that I was humbled by the best there ever was.’"
