Marlon Vera talks mistake that cost him Deiveson Figueiredo fight, blames referee for not deducting point
Marlon Vera recently shared his thoughts on his fight against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC Abu Dhabi last weekend. Vera broke down the reasons behind his loss and opined that the referee should have deducted a point from his opponent in the first round for a breach of rules.
Figueiredo put on an impressive performance against Vera and defeated the Ecuadorian via unanimous decision at UFC Abu Dhabi. Toward the end of the first round, the Brazilian seemingly landed an axe kick on Vera while he was grounded. However, the referee refrained from taking a point from Figueiredo.
In a recent video uploaded to YouTube, Vera addressed his second straight loss and opined that he shouldn't have returned to action so quickly after losing to Sean O'Malley at UFC 299 back in March.
"Me and the team definitely got to the conclusion that we definitely come back too soon. I went to a five-round war with the champion, and we all agreed after my March title fight that we'd come back either in November or December... I feel that was a mistake on us, I will say on me."
Vera continued:
"Talking about the fight, I would say it was pretty close... The only thing I wanna take away from the fight is that axe kick that he landed in the first round. That wasn't an accident. That was straight to my face. I feel that should've been taken - a point deducted automatically. That's my thoughts... I will say, if that would've been a point deducted, we could have been talking a different story right now."
Marlon Vera vows to return to the UFC octagon after taking some time off to "reset"
In the aftermath of his loss to Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC Abu Dhabi, Marlon Vera issued a statement addressing his loss and vowed to return to action after taking a break to collect himself.
After getting dropped by the Brazilian for the first time in his career, Vera took to Instagram and iterated that he shouldn't have returned so soon after his title war against Sean O'Malley in March.
"I fail at myself last nite. I thought I was ready I felt good in the gym but at the end maybe I come back too quick after a hard tittle fight. Life doesn’t end here I still dream about big things I just need time to let go and reset... I’ll be back re born''
