Mayssa Bastos beams with confidence, “ready to be next ONE world champion” against Danielle Kelly at ONE Fight Night 24
The bulk of the hard work's done, and all that's left for Mayssa Bastos is to step between the ropes. Bastos will head into the biggest fight of her career when she challenges Danielle Kelly for the ONE atomweight submission grappling world title in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 24 this Friday at the historic Lumpinee Stadium.
Taking to Instagram, Bastos expressed her unwavering confidence heading into her world title showdown against Kelly. She also prophesied that she would the hallowed Bangkok arena with ONE Championship gold on her shoulder.
Mayssa Bastos wrote:
"Finished my preparation for @onechampionship this week. I'm feeling confident and ready to be the next ONE Championship World Champion."
Bastos is arguably the greatest Brazilian jiu-jitsu artist, male or female, of her generation.
Sporting a ridiculous 115-12 professional record, the 26-year-old star from Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy has nine BJJ world titles under the IBJJF, IBJJF No-Gi, and Who's Number One.
She had an impressive ONE Championship debut at the all-female ONE Fight Night 20 card this past March when she dominated Japanese standout Kanae Yamada for the unanimous decision win.
Bastos now has a chance at the sport's biggest prize when she faces off against Kelly this Friday.
ONE Fight Night 24 is available live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
Mayssa Bastos shares what makes her tick in her title-ridden career
Champions are often bred through difficult circumstances, and these episodes have instilled in them a dogged determination that's almost exclusive to them.
Such was the case with Mayssa Bastos. In an interview with ONE Championship, Bastos shared what makes her tick and how she often overcomes the toughest challenges that come her way.
"Each challenge and moment surpassed for me is a victory. It is knowing that nothing is permanent and making sure that everything I am doing has a greater purpose than the bad moment I am going through and will somehow generate learning and growth. So the advice I can give is to focus on the things you have control over, because nothing is permanent, whether the bad or good time."
