Mayssa Bastos keeping her lips sealed on Danielle Kelly’s biggest flaws ahead of world title tilt: “I will keep it to myself”
Mayssa Bastos believes she's uncovered a few weaknesses in Danielle Kelly's grappling game—just don't expect her to tell you what they are.
On Friday, August 2, the multi-time IBJJF world champion will make her sophomore appearance with the promotion as she challenges Kelly, the reigning ONE atomweight submission grappling world champion, at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video.
Speaking with ONE Championship ahead of her highly anticipated return to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Bastos revealed that through her studies, she's found some kinks in Kelly's armor that she fully intends to exploit. But for now, she's keeping her lips sealed.
“I am still studying her game, so the weaknesses that I saw in her game I will keep it to myself, for now,” Bastos said.
Bastos goes into the fight coming off an impressive showing against Kanae Yamada in her debut at ONE Fight Night 20—the promotion's historic International Women's Day card.
Mayssa Bastos will go into her clash with Danielle Kelly carrying a significant advantage in experience, having competed in nearly 130 career matches. However, Bastos doesn't have nearly as much experience competing under ONE's rules or the unique environment that the promotion brings to the table.
That alone is enough reason for Bastos to practice caution—particularly against someone as dangerous as the Silver Fox BJJ star.
"She is very active in ONE events and she knows how to use the rules to her advantage, so that makes her very dangerous. I believe that is her strong point."
Will Danielle Kelly succeed in her first defense of the ONE atomweight submission grappling world title, or will it be #AndNew when Mayssa Bastos takes center stage in U.S. primetime?
ONE Championship fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE Fight Night 24 live and for free via Amazon Prime Video in U.S. primetime on Friday, August 2.
