Mayssa Bastos over the moon after clinching gold with bonus-winning display: "I'm really happy"
To say Mayssa Bastos is happy is an understatement, especially after she enjoyed one of the most memorable outings of her glorious career at ONE Fight Night 24.
A nine-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion, the Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy star is used to performing on the biggest stage of the ground art.
Still, she didn't take anything lightly against Danielle Kelly in their ONE atomweight submission grappling world title fight in the co-main event of the promotion's latest outing inside the revered Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 26-year-old knew momentum was on the defending queen's side. Plus, with Kelly's experience competing under the promotion's electrifying submission grappling ruleset, Bastos figured that she had to put in extra work to formulate a winning path last Friday, August 2.
Thankfully, every extra attention to detail and her array of submission maneuvers worked in her favor on fight night, as she impressed, claimed the ONE world title, and bagged a US$50,000 performance bonus for her fine display versus the Silver Fox BJJ representative.
Mayssa Bastos couldn't contain her excitement as she described to Sportskeeda MMA's Nic Atkin what this victory meant to her:
"I'm really happy. I was glad I was able to [put on] a good performance, and besides winning the title, with the bonus. Yeah, really happy."
