Michael Bisping snubs Molly McCann for his favorite women's knockout of the year award
Michael Bisping announced his favorite women's knockout of the year and it did not involve his fellow countrywoman Molly McCann.
Bisping recently uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he shared his top five knockouts from 2022. The list included only one knockout from a female fighter and that was Zhang Weili's spinning backfist KO of Joanna Jędrzejczyk.
But 'The Count' did give an honorable mention to McCann for her two spinning back elbow knockouts in 2022.
Bisping said:
"On the topic of females delivering spinning backfists, spinning back elbows... I can't not give a special shoutout to Molly McCann... [the knockouts] were sensational. They were beautiful. They might have even been technically better."
"But in terms of the opponents, the stakes were much higher [in Weili vs. Jędrzejczyk]. Zhang Weili doing it to Joanna Jędrzejczyk just takes the biscuit, you know. That's why I gave it to her. But Molly's [knockouts] were maybe even more impressive but they were kind of like [against] lower level competition. That's not an insult. She was amazing."
You can watch Bisping speak about McCann from the 8:20 mark below:
Molly McCann had three UFC fights in 2022. 'Meatball' made her first octagon appearance at UFC London in March, where she knocked out Luana Carlonina with a spinning back elbow in the third round.
In her next outing in July, McCann used the same move to finish Hannah Goldy in the opening round. 'Meatball' won a 'Performance of the Night' bonus for both knockouts.
In her final fight of 2022, the 32-year-old took on Erin Blanchfield at UFC 281 and lost via submission in the first round.
Stephen Thompson speaks about Molly McCann's knockout at UFC London
UFC welterweight Stephen Thompson recently weighed in on Molly McCann's knockout against Luana Carolina in one of his YouTube videos.
While listing his favorite knockouts from 2022, 'Wonderboy' mentioned McCann's finish against Carolina and showered praise on the Liverpudlian.
Thompson called the finish a 'KO of the Year' contender and claimed that the blow possibly had enough power to even knock him out:
"This could have been like, Knockout of the Year... Nobody would see that coming. She would knock me out with that, to be honest with you. Like, who throws that? I've never thought once about throwing a spinning back elbow in a fight. It's just something you don't see too often..."
"That was just phenomenal timing. She had to have been working on that in camp but crazy KO right there."
