Mike Tyson discusses how fear has shaped and motivates him ahead of his fight with Jake Paul: "I'm a fear-based person"

Boxing legend Mike Tyson has delved into his relationship with the feeling of fear. 'Iron' was part of the recent episode of the Pound 4 Pound podcast, hosted by former UFC champions Henry Cejudo and Kamaru Usman.

At one point during their interaction, Cejudo brought up how he had observed that fear worked as a motivator for Tyson. The 58-year-old elaborated on it, sharing how fear has been a constant part of his life.

Tyson added that he knew to control the feeling and is not dominated by it:

"I don't know. That's just who I am. I'm a fear-based person. My whole life is based off fear, fear of failure, fear of succeeding because succeeding may lead to failure in another direction or in a higher participle of that direction. But I know how to control my fear. My fear doesn't dominate me, you know? I have a relationship with my fear... My mentor taught me to understand fear. If I didn't know the dynamics of fear, I would think I'm a coward but I'm not a coward."

Mike Tyson will lock horns against Jake Paul on November 15

At the age of 58, Mike Tyson will return to the world of boxing and take on Jake Paul in a professional bout on Nov. 15. The event will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and the streaming giant Netflix will broadcast the event live across the world.

In the lead-up to the clash, Tyson did an interview with talkSPORT where he shared that he did not fear 'The Problem Child' and labeled his boxing record "amateur:"

"I don't fear him. He has stepped in the ring before. Whoever's in that ring has a problem with me. Don't go in that ring if you don't have a problem with me. He's a good little fighter but he's only had 10 fights, which is considered as an amateur in our field. I see him running around and I have to try and catch him and slaughter him."
