Mike Tyson issues statement on getting sued for $1.6 million over allegedly breaching contract to fight Jake Paul

Mike Tyson recently found himself in legal trouble as he was reportedly got sued for $1.6 million over the Jake Paul fight. In response, Tyson released a statement asserting that the accuser had broken the contract and that he had done nothing wrong.

For context, a UK-based company, Medier that promotes online casino and betting company, Rabona has accused Tyson of breach of a promotional agreement following the announcement of his fight against Paul in March earlier this year. Medier took the matter to the court in October claiming that the 58-year-old and his company Tyrannic cost them around $1.59 million. This Friday, the company’s lawyer said:

''The true reason for Mr. Tyson and Tyrannic’s hasty and unlawful termination was because Mr. Tyson had agreed [to] a deal, sponsored by Netflix, to fight the influencer Jake Paul.''

Tyson's representatives responded with a statement in which they held Medier liable for several breaches of agreements.

''It is the company’s position that Medier, Ltd. materially breached the terms of its license agreement on multiple occasions and in various ways. As such, Tyrannic, LLC was well within its legal and contractual rights to terminate the license agreement for material breach in an effort to mitigate additional reputational harm to the Tyson brand.” [H/t: New York Post]

Tyson took on Paul in a heavyweight boxing contest last month on Nov. 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Their bout was initially scheduled for July 20, however, an ulcer fare up while traveling forced it to be postponed. Given the age difference between the two, many in the combat sports community were concerned about Tyson's health, which resulted in significant criticism.

Despite the criticism, their fight went forward and was live-streamed on Netflix, with over 108 million people watching. Paul prevailed by unanimous decision, although many people thought the bout was boring from start to finish.
