Mikey Musumeci reflects on biggest realization after first two title defenses

Mikey Musumeci has learned to not count his chickens before they hatch inside the Circle.

Musumeci, the reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion, dispatched another challenger at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video. He scored his fourth-straight win under the ONE Championship banner with an impressive submission win over IBJJF world champion Osamah Almarwai.

‘Darth Rigatoni’ earned his second submission in the ‘Mile High City’, further establishing himself as one of the best grapplers in the sport.

Speaking with the Jiu-Jitsu Times following his big win, Musumeci spoke about keeping his composure while competing, even when he appears to be moments away from another victory.

“I’ve learned not to celebrate too early when I have a joint lock submission anymore I don’t get too excited. I’m like, ‘Alright, I have it, but it’s not over!’” he said.

After dominating the competition thus far, Musumeci is looking for a big-money fight with another flyweight great. On more than one occasion, ‘Darth Rigatoni’ has expressed his desire to test his skills against the promotion’s reigning ONE flyweight world champion, Demetrious Johnson.

Both fighters have expressed an interest in facing one another, but if things don’t pan out, Musumeci is happy to welcome eight-time world titleholder Adriano Moraes into the world of submission grappling.

Moraes recently closed the book on his iconic trilogy with Demetrious Johnson at ONE Fight Night 10, coming up short in a bid to reclaim the flyweight title. Could a submission showcase with ‘Darth Rigatoni’ lead Moraes back into the win column?

If you missed any of the action, or just want to relive one of the most epic nights in ONE Championship history, the ONE Fight Night 10 replay can be watched live via Amazon Prime Video in North America.
