Mikey Musumeci says "David versus Goliath" match against Kade Ruotolo only possible in jiu-jitsu
ONE flyweight submission grappling king Mikey Musumeci has long been known to overcome the hardest challenges in his life, and he would want to prove it once more in a must-see spectacle at ONE 168: Denver.
In the co-main event of the U.S. card on Sept. 6, 'Darth Rigatoni' will face the ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion Kade Ruotolo in a bid to claim his opponent's belt and become the first two-division ruler in his discipline.
As his matchup this time is hailed as the biggest match in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu history, the 28-year-old wants all fans to expect non-stop action for the entire 10 minutes of this single world championship round.
Musumeci shared his thoughts with ONE Championship about his epic battle with Ruotolo inside the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado:
“I’m the best in the world at 135. And Kade’s the dominant best in the world at 170. He’s been dominating everyone at 170. In any other sport, because it’s standing, like wrestling, striking, it would be impossible for this scenario to happen. It would just be zero chance."
He added:
"But because we’re in jiu-jitsu, a guy can go three weight classes up, David versus Goliath, and fight the heavier person. And, again, like I keep saying, there is a chance I can win. There’s a chance that the little guy could beat the big guy. So I think that’s what’s beautiful about jiu-jitsu.”
Tickets for ONE 168: Denver are available via Ticketmaster.
Mikey Musumeci has a secret sauce to keep himself grounded
Like a master chef, Mikey Musumeci seems to have his secret sauce to keep himself humble, especially ahead of the biggest fight in his career so far.
In fact, 'Darth Rigatoni' told Cageside Press that as a perfectionist, he has always been very hard on himself. While he's keeping all of that inside his head, he presents himself as probably the nicest ground fighter alive today.
But he also admitted that this has its downside, as he could not always enjoy things and often being miserable on his own.
Nonetheless, Mikey Musumeci promises to showcase the best version of himself in the co-main event of ONE 168: Denver when he clashes with Kade Ruotolo for the ONE lightweight submission grappling world title.
