Miles Johns admits to being too emotionally charged during fight against Douglas Silva de Andrade: "Made it a bigger deal than it was"
Miles Johns claimed he was "too emotionally charged" during his unanimous decision win against Douglas Silva de Andrade.
On Saturday night, Johns was featured in the UFC Vegas 93 co-main event against the always-dangerous Andrade. Heading into the entertaining matchup, 'Chop' was coming off back-to-back unanimous decision wins, excluding his no-contest against Dan Argueta due to a failed drug test for Turinabol.
Johns and Andrade engaged in primarily an entertaining striking battle for three rounds. Once the dust settled, the American emerged victorious by unanimous decision for his third consecutive win, extending his UFC record to 6-2.
Following his winning performance, Johns took to X and reflected on Saturday's unranked bantamweight matchup by saying:
"After rewatching the fight, happy with the win but was too emotionally charged & made it a bigger deal than it was. We playing chess not checkers BUT still need to take these dudes out after hurting them. Always room to improve. Cardio felt great On to the next!"
Miles Johns made his UFC debut in September 2019 after earning a contract on Dana White's Contender Series. Since then, the 30-year-old has secured six wins inside the octagon, with his only losses against Mario Bautista and John Castaneda.
Miles Johns calls for APEX main event against Ricky Simon next
Miles Johns is unranked in the stacked bantamweight division, which likely won't change with his win at UFC Vegas 93. With that said, the American believes he's evolved into "Miles Johns 2.0" and wants to crack the rankings by taking out another dangerous opponent like Douglas Silva de Andrade.
Shortly after getting his hand raised, Johns joined Michael Bisping for a post-fight interview in the octagon. When he asked what's next, 'Chop' responded by calling out Ricky Simon, who holds a promotional record of 8-4 after back-to-back losses.
Firstly, Simon must emerge victorious in his next appearance on June 29 at UFC 303. The 31-year-old is scheduled to face rising contender Vinicius 'Lok Dog' Oliveira, who secured a highlight-reel knockout in his UFC debut.
If Simon defeats Oliveira, Johns hopes to face him in an APEX main event. It should be noted that 'Chop' is also willing to fight whoever Sean Shelby offers him.
