MMA fighter reveals Jorge Masvidal paid him ‘three times more’ than the UFC for Gamebred Boxing event
Former UFC fighter Markus Perez has shed light on the compensation he received from Jorge Masvidal for his upcoming fight at Gamebred Boxing 4, which is scheduled for April 1 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Brazilian recently made an appearance on the Trocação Franca podcast where he touched upon various things like his upcoming fight and how he hoped to compete again in MMA.
At one point, the conversation arrived on the topic of money and the Brazilian revealed that he was getting paid more by Masvidal than he did during his time in the UFC. He said:
“I told him I’m a MMA fighter and I’ll fight anything. [Masvidal] said, ‘I’ll offer you this much for a boxing match.’ I was like, ‘What? More than I was making in the UFC? I’m in. Let’s do it.’ It’s good money, but my focus is on beating the guy.”
Perez added that he was getting paid 'three times more' (via MMA Fighting) than the paychecks he received in the multi-billion dollar promotion.
Perez will go up against Joe Riggs in a boxing match at Gamebred Boxing 4, which will be headlined by a clash between boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. and former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.
During his stint in the UFC, Markus Perez competed in seven fights but managed to win only two of them.
When will Jorge Masvidal next compete in the UFC?
After a year-long hiatus, Jorge Masvidal will return to action on April 8 and take on Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of UFC 287. A rematch between Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya will headline the event, which is scheduled to take place at the Miami-Dade Arena in Miami, Florida.
In the lead-up to UFC 287, Jorge Masvidal did an interview with MMA Junkie where he weighed in on his next fight. According to 'Gamebred', there's a vast gap between his and Burns' fighting skillset:
"This chapter (of my career) would be called: Gilbert ‘The Stepping-Stone’ Burns. It’s no diss to Gilbert. I think he’s a good competitor and he comes to fight and stuff like that for the most part, but we’ve never been on the same skillset."
"As far as gameness and toughness and durability, he’s never had it, either. You crack him and he starts skating... I’m going to paint my Van Gogh on Gilbert’s face. Elbows, knees, kicks, takedown defense, takedown offense – all that good stuff. I’m going to bring it.” (23:01 to 23:55)
