"MMA is my game" - Jarred Brooks says Gustavo Balart's best days are already behind him
Jarred Brooks believes that career longevity will be a big factor in his next outing as he looks to show why he is still the best strawweight in the world.
'The Monkey God' has faced the majority of top contenders in the division already but he's now set to tick off one more name.
Gustavo Balart is a very unique mixed martial artist and that makes him a dangerous test for Brooks.
The two men will meet in the main event of ONE Fight Night 24 on August 2 where the interim strawweight world championship will be on the line.
Balart came to MMA quite late because he already had a successful career in wrestling before he made the switch.
At 37 years old, he's certainly not a young athlete and Brooks told ONE Championship in a recent interview that this will be a significant factor in their contest.
He believes that despite the pedigree his opponent brings to the table, he's the MMA specialist in this match-up.
"Whatever you're trying to be, 'Monkey God 2.0.' No, bro. You're not even close. You're 37 years old. You're an Olympian. You did what you did. But MMA is my game."
Jarred Brooks is out to prove a point
From the moment he arrived in ONE Championship, Jarred Brooks has not been quiet about believing himself to be the best strawweight on the roster.
He's already held the gold once after defeating Joshua Pacio in 2022 but the rematch didn't go his way.
Brooks was disqualified in the opening round for spiking Pacio on his head but with the champion out injured, an interim title was created in the meantime.
'The Monkey God' is out to win the belt so that he can face 'The Passion' for a third and final time to settle the score once and for all.
ONE Fight Night 24 will air live in US Primetime from Lumpinee Stadium, free of charge for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
