“Muay Thai definitely saved my life” - Nico Carrillo says fighting career put him on a better path
First-ranked ONE Championship bantamweight Muay Thai contender 'King of the North' Nico Carrillo of the United Kingdom says that as a youth, he was definitely on a rocky path. That was until he discovered Muay Thai and it changed his life completely.
Carrillo recalled the first time he tried Muay Thai at his local gym and how he instantly fell in love with it.
'King of the North' told ONE Championship in a recent interview:
“I remember the smell and I remember the atmosphere. I remember the buzz I got after training. That day, I said to myself, this is what I wanna do with the rest of my life. I fell in love with it more and more every day and had no trouble being consistent compared to boxing."
Carrillo continued:
“Muay Thai definitely saved my life. It put me on a different trajectory than all my friends at the time. If I was still hanging about with certain people, I often wonder where I would be or how I would’ve turned out.”
