PFL seemingly changes tune about Muhammad Mokaev
The Dagestani-English fighter fought his last fight against Manel Kape at UFC 304, after which he was unceremoniously not re-signed by the promotion despite being on an undefeated streak. The decision sparked controversy in the MMA community.
Dana White remained vague about the real reason but stated that Mokaev had made the matchmakers in the company unhappy. An insider claimed that the UFC brass was forced to make the call since Mokaev was negotiating with the PFL while still being on contract with the UFC.
The PFL denied being in any talks with the fighter. President Ray Sefo even went a step ahead and said the company was not interested since Mokaev was a "pain in the a*s to deal with."
However, from what the PFL CEO Peter Murray said in a recent interview with Sherdog, they seemed to have changed their mind. He said:
"Muhammad [Mokaev] is the real deal; a lot of respect for him. I believe Muhammad Mokaev could absolutely be the future face of flyweights within the Professional Fighters League, should that be a weight class we open up in the Global Season or within our Bellator platform. It’s absolutely something we’re looking at and this kid is impressive."
Mokaev reshared the news on X with a smiling emoji.
