Muhammad Mokaev says UFC may cut him over bizarre reason despite seven-fight win streak: "They tried to get rid of flyweights before"

Muhammad Mokaev recently opened up about his contract situation with the UFC. Mokaev disclosed that, prior to UFC 304, the promotion had warned him that if he persisted in fighting in a wrestle-heavy manner, they might not re-sign him.

Mokaev, who was on the last fight of his contract, took on No.8-ranked flyweight Manel Kape in the preliminary card of UFC 304. The pay-per-view is currently taking place at the Co-op Live in Manchester. There was a lot of animosity between the two fighters as they engaged in a physical altercation at a hotel before their clash.

However, the pair failed to maintain the same intensity once their fight got underway. After 15 minutes of little action inside the octagon, Mokaev defeated Kape via unanimous decision. The judges scored the contest (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) in favor of the Russian-born Englishman.

The display of sportsmanship following the final horn was possibly the most unexpected aspect of the evening. Before the decision was read, the two fighters gave each other hugs and left for their respective corners.

At the post-fight press conference, Mokaev spoke with the media about his contract position with the organization. When questioned if he received a new contract prior to his bout with Kape, 'The Punisher' responded:

''They said they're gonna see how I perform, they don't want me to keep shooting and taking people down, but I've done what I could do with like tonight... They don't like this because they tried to get rid of flyweights before and they don't want this kind of fights.''

Mokaev was reportedly in negotiations with the PFL as well. It will be intriguing to see whether or not the flyweight contender joins the PFL to compete in the million-dollar tournament.
