Muhammad Mokaev was seemingly told different story about UFC contract ahead of Manel Kape fight
Muhammad Mokaev's promising UFC career came to an abrupt end when he was unexpectedly released by the promotion following his victory over Manel Kape at UFC 304. Despite remaining undefeated, the young flyweight found himself on the outside looking in after the event.
The decision to part ways with Mokaev was met with widespread surprise, especially considering the fighter's recent performances. UFC President Dana White cited differences with the matchmakers as the primary reason for the release, suggesting that Mokaev's grappling-heavy style was not aligned with the promotion's vision.
However, the situation took a surprising turn when Mokaev revealed that he had been given assurances about his future with the UFC prior to the fight.
In an interview, the British fighter claimed that UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell had promised him a title shot if he secured a win against Kape:
"I have one fight left. After that, we will re-sign under more favorable terms. I want to fight for the title; I think it's about time. Hunter Campbell told me, «If you win impressively against Kape, we will offer you a title fight. If not, you'll have to fight again.» He was probably referring to a knockout by a spinning kick or something, but I think it will be a submission."
