“My mindset for this fight is to kill” - Regian Eersel aims to be more tactical to regain title from Alexis Nicolas
Regian Eersel may have lost his ONE lightweight kickboxing crown, but he's coming back with a vengeance.
The Surinamese star believes that he will be able to reclaim the belt he once lost and knocks Alexis Nicolas out when they clash inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium for the ONE Fight Night 25 card in less than 24 hours.
Moreover, Eersel has changed his mindset to a 'kill mode' this time, while also applying his tactics better to take out his opponent swiftly, as he told ONE Championship.
'The Immortal' said:
"Okay. So my mindset for this fight is to kill, you know, always to kill. But for now, it's a little less aggressive and more fight IQ like you said."
He further explained:
"So, I have to think more and not only going forward, forward, forward. So yeah, we must start the fight inside of me, and October 5 (in Asia) for the fight to come out."
Indeed, Regian Eersel should have it in him to bounce back into the winner's column and once again secure the two-sport glory at ONE Fight Night 25.
Regian Eersel to avoid Alexis Nicolas' calf kicks which led to his previous demise
As a former two-sport world champion, Regian Eersel knows well that he should learn from his defeat that ended an eight year long winning streak with 22 victories in his records.
In his first encounter with Alexis Nicolas, Eersel had to endure his opponent's chopping calf kicks, which made him harder to maintain his own rhythm.
Thus, at ONE Fight Night 25, the now-challenger will bring those lessons into play, as he said in the same interview with the promotion:
“The first round he got me good with the calf kicks. That was a surprise for me," Eersel told ONE. "But I was feeling okay. When I felt this power, I was like, ‘I can handle this.’ The only thing was the calf kicks because I never felt that pain before."
ONE Fight Night 25 will air live in U.S. primetime on Oct. 4 from Bangkok's iconic Lumpinee Stadium.
