“My opportunity has arrived” - Gabriel Sousa aiming to make the most of his rematch with Mikey Musumeci
The world-famous grappler Gabriel Sousa is finally joining the elites in ONE Championship.
The Brazilian can't wait to enter his first promotional bout against ONE flyweight submission grappling king Mikey Musumeci, in a non-title bout within the bantamweight division, and he applauds ONE for this opportunity.
Speaking in an interview with Sportskeeds, Sousa said:
"As I said previously, ONE treats athletes in a very professional way. They are always raising the level of events, and now with Jiu-Jitsu, they are raising it even higher. And, thank God, my opportunity has arrived and I'm going to make the most of it."
"With that, they are improving the lives of many athletes, and that is very important. ONE is one of the biggest platforms in the world!"
His arrival here was not without struggle. As a grappler with over 100 career victories, Sousa has experienced the hardships and challenges of being a world-famous submission grappler.
"Everyone knows ONE" - Gabriel Sousa wants to put on a great fight at ONE 167
It is no surprise that Gabriel Sousa can't wait to mark his arrival with a win over his old rival and ONE flyweight submission grappler world champion Mikey Musumeci.
Sousa has been waiting for this opportunity, a fight against Musumeci in Bangkok's Impact Arena, which is aired live at U.S. primetime on Friday, June 7, but there is also another reason.
The Brazilian said to Sportskeeda in an interview:
"Everyone knows ONE. It's the biggest event in Asia and the world, and I've always wanted to be a part of it."
Moreover, he wants to not only perform at his best, but also to entertain the global fans.
"I hope to give a good return for the event, I hope to be able to put on a great fight. Because that's what they deserve. If they called me it's because they believe I can really put on the show they expect and not put on a boring fight, right?
ONE 167 will air live and for free to all Amazon Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
