"My worst enemy has always been myself" - Jarred Brooks says DQ loss to Joshua Pacio made him reflect on his career
Jarred Brooks hasn't had a fruitful 2024 thus far but he's hoping to turn his fortunes around.
'The Monkey God' is back in action at ONE Fight Night 24 where getting back into the win column means more than just getting his hand raised.
It means putting his last outing behind him after one of the most difficult moments of his career.
Brooks has faced adversity in the past but on multiple occasions, the emphasis has been placed on his own actions over anything else.
At ONE 166, his rematch with Joshua Pacio ended in crazy circumstances after Brooks spiked his opponent and was disqualified and therefore lost his strawweight world championship.
The former champion is adamant he did not do it intentionally and was incredibly disappointed at the way things played out. He spoke about in a recent interview with ONE Championship:
"I've got shamed a lot for that and it sucks. It does suck. To lose a lot of my pay, my belt status, stuff like that."
Brooks continued, adding that he's been down this road before:
"My worst enemy has always been myself, if it doesn't show through my career and my losses."
The goal is simple for Jarred Brooks
The main focus for Jarred Brooks is very clear to see after the events of ONE 166.
Brooks wants the strawweight world championship back but a third fight with Pacio was off the table after the champion suffered a substantial injury.
As Pacio works his way back to full fitness, an interim champion will be crowned at Lumpinee Stadium on Aug. 2 as Brooks goes up against Gustavo Balart.
The best way for him to put the past behind him is to get back to winning ways and that all starts at ONE Fight Night 24 in his return to action.
ONE Fight Night 24 will air live in US Primetime, free of charge for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
