NBA sharp-shooter Damian Lillard reacts to boxer flatlining his opponent with a potential cheap shot
NBA star Damian Lillard recently responded to a boxing video that has gone viral on social media. The video is from a boxing event that took place in August 2022 at the Omega Products International Event Center in Corona, California. The event was headlined by a lightweight clash between Ruben Torres and Cristian Baez.
In the video, the two boxers can be seen touching gloves in the seventh round. But as soon as the gloves touched, 'Ace' landed a brutal punch on Baez and knocked him out cold.
The person who uploaded the video asked Twitter users whether the boxer's actions were fair or was it a cheap shot. Lillard responded to the post and said that although it was a cheap shot, it was the fighter's duty to protect themselves at all times in a fight.
"Cheap but protect yourself at all times," wrote Damian Lillard.
Many boxing fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on 'Dame Time's post.
One Twitter user called the knockout punch 'disrespectful' and said that these actions belonged in street fighting.
"Cheap shot! Pretending to meet in mutual acknowledgement of respect with your opponent and then showing disrespect. Maybe okay for street fighter."
Another individual said that there was nothing wrong with Torres' actions in the fight.
"Nothing cheap about this, number one rule in boxing. Dame just said it. Protect yourself at all times."
One person brought up Floyd Mayweather in the conversation, saying that 'Money' did something similar in his fight against Victor Ortiz.
"Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz should’ve taught everybody never keep your hands down."
