An NY Fights report indicated that the challenger, Ball, was expected to take home a minimum of $300k as his guaranteed purse. It marked a 70-30 purse split in favor of the champion Vargas, with 10 percent being set aside as the win bonus in accordance with the WBC's rules.

Additionally, Ball's recent fight saw him capture the WBA featherweight title with a split decision victory against Raymond Ford in June 2024. NY Fights reported the fight's purse split as 60-40, with their respective minimum purses being $600k for Ford and $400k for Ball.

On the other hand, Ronny Rios also competed in a championship fight this year. He faced Murodjon Akhmadaliev for the WBA (Super) and IBF super bantamweight titles in June 2022. Rios was beaten via 12th-round TKO, but he's believed to have earned a major payday for the clash.

The WBA had announced that Matchroom Boxing representative Shaun Palmer won the purse bid for the fight, putting up an amount of $525,555. The purse split was expected to be 75-25 in favor of the champion. Rios being the challenger was expected to receive around $131,388 -- i.e., approximately 25 percent of the overall purse.

In regard to the Nick Ball vs. Ronny Rios showdown, Ball is entering the fight holding a major world title for the first time in his career. While the exact payouts remain unclear, based on their previously reported purses, both fighters could bag six-figure paydays.

The champion, Ball, is expected to earn the bigger split from the overall fight purse against Rios. The U.K.'s Nick Ball (20 wins, 0 losses, 1 draw; 11 KOs) is the reigning WBA featherweight champion. Meanwhile, 34-year-old American Ronny Rios (34-4, 17 KOs), who's vastly experienced in the amateur and pro boxing realms, will look to dethrone 'Wrecking Ball.' The event headlines a boxing card at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England, on Oct. 5, 2024.

Incidentally, the 27-year-old Ball is a proud representative of Liverpool and will be fighting in his hometown in his very first title defense, against a veteran opponent nonetheless. The two fighters recently partook in a traditional face-off outside the arena in Liverpool ahead of the much-awaited event.
