Nick Diaz's notorious brawl rival discusses how the Stockton native got in his head: "He called me Jared from Subway"

A former UFC opponent of Nick Diaz, with whom he got into a brawl after the fight, revealed how Diaz got into his head during the fight. He also praised Diaz for his durability.

In February 2006, Diaz fought Joe Riggs at UFC 57 and suffered a unanimous decision loss. After the fight, he became involved in one of the most infamous brawls with Riggs at the hospital, as both were being treated following their back-and-forth battle.

In a recent appearance on Tim Welch's YouTube channel, Riggs was asked to name a fighter who got under his skin during the fight. Riggs named Diaz and revealed what the Stockton native said during their fight at UFC 57. Riggs said:

“Nick, for some reason, during that fight, I could hear Joe Rogan comment on how he was just walking through shots. It messes with you mentally. And Nick talks a lot too. When we were fighting, He called me Jared from Subway. It was a good insult.”
“He knocked me down in the first round, and then we scrambled and got back to our feet. Then he hit me with a body shot, and he goes, 'You're done, fat [ __ ], you're done, Jared from Subway. I thought, He's right, I'm done. It's hard when they talk to you too. Nick’s definitely durable," he added.

Joe Riggs tells his side of infamous hospital brawl with Nick Diaz

Following their fight at UFC 57, Joe Riggs suffered a hand injury, while Nick Diaz sustained facial injuries from the brutal punishment in the bout. Both fighters were taken to the hospital for treatment and placed in separate rooms. Allegedly, Diaz approached Riggs, and a physical altercation broke out between the two.

During the fight, Riggs lost a tooth, and Riggs, who was attached to an IV pole at the time, had it ripped from him during the brawl. Security quickly intervened, and the fighters were eventually separated.

Speaking with Tim Welch on his YouTube channel, Riggs shared his side of the story regarding the infamous hospital brawl with Diaz. He said:

“Oh, it was both those co**suckers… So, Nick, every time he loses, he thinks he wins. Doesn’t matter.”
“So, I fall into a single-leg [takedown]. So, I’m lifting him [Nick Diaz] on the hospital beds, and there’s sh** everywhere. We hop into a f**king broom closet of all things. I don’t know why. Thank God because I couldn’t hit him. He put his head right in my hip pocket. He was toe-stomping me. And I was like, ‘F**k yeah!’ I was just elbowing the sh** out of him.”
