What's next for Sean Strickland in the UFC?
Sean Strickland started the year by locking horns against Dricus du Plessis for the middleweight belt at UFC 297. Strickland, who was then champion, went all five rounds with 'Stillknocks' in what ended up being a razor-close affair. Ultimately, however, the South African became the new UFC middleweight champion, as he was awarded the split decision win.
After losing the title, Strickland was matched up against Paulo Costa at UFC 302 in June 2024, where he managed to edge out the split decision win. Since then, there have been talks of a Strickland-du Plessis rematch. In the past, UFC CEO Dana White has also expressed interest in making the matchup a reality.
Recently, however, Khamzat Chimaev scored a highly impressive first-round submission victory against Robert Whittaker at UFC 308. With the victory, 'Borz' has also thrown his name into contention for a title shot.
So, it remains uncertain whether Strickland's next UFC outing will be for the UFC midddleweight belt or not.
