Why did Conor McGregor back former foe Nate Diaz against Jorge Masvidal?

Conor McGregor had a memorable rivalry with Nate Diaz in the UFC, which saw them compete against each other on two occasions and split wins.

Ahead of the boxing bout between Diaz and Masvidal, the Irishman shared his thoughts on the competitors and explained his reasoning for backing his former foe to get his hand raised. McGregor was so confident in the Stockton native that he wagered $500,000 for him to defeat 'Gamebred' in their boxing bout.

McGregor took to his X account to make his wager known and described what he believed would transpire. He wrote:

"I've decided to put $500,000 on [Nate] Diaz to win tonight's boxing match. Range, form, experience, solely hands being used. I can't see [Jorge] Masvidal causing any problems to Nate in a boxing ring whatsoever. They are both little play around dipsh**s in a fight, play around bollox, but I feel Nate does him in EASY here for real. $500k gets me back $1,625,000 all in. @Duelbits"
