“No beach fun for me” - Danielle Kelly skips 4th of July celebrations, continues the grind ahead of title defense against Mayssa Bastos
Danielle Kelly isn't stopping even if it's the 4th of July. The reigning ONE atomweight submission grappling world champion is smack in the middle of training camp in preparation for her world title defense against Mayssa Bastos.
Kelly's defense of her throne against the nine-time IBJJF world champion goes down at ONE Fight Night 24 on Aug. 2 at the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.
Taking to Instagram, Kelly revealed she's skipped the usual Independence Day celebrations and instead hit the gym to better prepare for her match against Bastos.
Danielle Kelly wrote:
"Happy 4th of July to all my friends and followers 🎉 no beach fun for me, but I'm looking forward to putting on a show for you guys soon."
Kelly is one of the most exciting submission grapplers of her generation, and she showed a glimpse of her intense training camp for ONE Fight Night 24.
Intent on pushing the pace against Bastos, Kelly was seen practicing her takedown offense in what could be one of her main weapons when she puts her strap on the line in Bangkok.
Kelly holds an undefeated 3-0-1 record in ONE Championship, and her lone draw was in her promotional debut against Mei Yamaguchi at ONE X.
The Philadelphia native holds wins over Sambo world champion Mariia Molchanova, former ONE women's strawweight world title contender Ayaka Miura, and IBJJF world champion Jessa Khan.
ONE Fight Night 24 is available live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
Danielle Kelly uses her tough childhood as fuel to world title success
Danielle Kelly was never shy in talking about the traumatizing events in her younger years.
The ONE atomweight submission grappling world champion has been vocal about the bullying she experienced in her school days, as well as the tragic passing of her parents when she was young.
These events, no matter how difficult, became part of Kelly's identity and she used those as motivation in her ascend to the throne.
"Glad I've been through a lot, made me a monster 🦍."
