"Now it's my turn to cut him" - Jonathan Haggerty seeks poetic justice in Superlek rematch at ONE 168: Denver
Jonathan Haggerty would love to level the series against Superlek Kiatmoo9 the very same way the Thai finished him years back when they locked horns at ONE 168: Denver.
'The Kicking Machine' and the Englishman crossed paths outside the ONE Championship banner in Bolton, England, in October 2018. An inexperienced Haggerty had his work cut out by the Thai's ever-brilliant stand-up arsenal, with the referee calling a stop to the contest at the end of round two due to a huge gush above 'The General's' eye.
Almost six years on, the two are finally set to cross paths again in a far larger venue, Ball Arena, and on the biggest stage of combat sports.
Ahead of the September 6 bill, Jonathan Haggerty had this to say to Inside Fighting on his goal to pull one back against 'The Kicking Machine' in a similar fashion:
"I guess that loss to Superlek. You know, if I'm being honest, it was meant to be. Last time, he cut me. Now, it's my turn to cut him."
Both warriors have leveled up by miles since they shared the ring. Today, Jonathan Haggerty reigns as a two-sport ONE world champion — in Muay Thai and kickboxing — and has plans to become the first simultaneous three-sport king.
As for Superlek, a victory over Haggerty in the Mile High City will see him secure two-sport world championship status on the global stage.
Superlek getting himself ready for a five-round scrap vs Jonathan Haggerty
With the stakes at an all-time high, Superlek believes knocking out Jonathan Haggerty will be much harder to achieve.
As a result, the Thai warrior has put some focus on fighting for the full duration, as he told the South China Morning Post:
"I feel like I'm moving up, maybe I have more power now, and maybe I could finish early. Well, who knows? No one knows, but I have prepared myself for five rounds just in case."
