"Old dog" Sam-A out to show he has what it takes of one more World Title run at ONE 169

Legendary Thai star Sam-A Gaiyanghadao wants to prove he can be a ONE world champion once more, starting with a statement win over Zhang Peimian at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' on Friday, Nov. 8, inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

In an interview with the world's largest martial arts promotion, Sam-A bared his plans:

"I want to get back to being a ONE World Champion before I retire. However, I think winning this fight is too early for me to have a shot at gold."

He continued:

"Everyone is doubting how long an old dog like me can stay in this game, but winning this kickboxing match will boost my confidence and prove that I can still fight."

The Evolve MMA standout holds the honor of being the inaugural ONE strawweight Muay Thai, strawweight kickboxing, and flyweight Muay Thai world champion.

Sam-A is entering his strawweight kickboxing bout with 'Fighting Rooster' at ONE 169 fresh off a first-round knockout of three-time ISKA kickboxing world champion Akram Hamidi this past September at ONE Friday Fights 81.

How Zhang Peimian stacks up against Sam-A ahead of ONE 169

Zhang Peimian is no stranger to fighting the best in the stacked ONE strawweight kickboxing division, though going toe-to-toe with Sam-A will demand a lot more from him.

Gifted with lightning-quick footwork and a vast striking arsenal, Zhang showcased his ferocity with a strong decision win over Aliff Sor Dechapan this past April.

However, Sam-A's never-say-die mentality will be a formidable test for the Shengli Fight Club star to overcome as Zhang aims to eventually challenge again for the 125-pound kickboxing crown by defeating the Thai great at ONE 169.

ONE 169 will air live and free to all Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
