ONE 167 results: Mikey Musumeci vs. Gabriel Sousa

Nearly three years after suffering a stunning submission loss under the Who's Number One banner, reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci will have the opportunity to score some long-awaited redemption against BJJ standout Gabriel Sousa.

Stepping inside the sold-out Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, 'Darth Rigatoni' went toe-to-toe with Sousa in one of the most anticipated rematches in grappling history.

Both grapplers come out aggressive and Sousa immediately gets things down to the ground. Sousa drags 'Darth Rigatoni' to the cage wall, but Musumeci snatches Sousa's left leg. As Sousa attempts to defend, Musumeci catches Sousa in a calf slicer position.

Sousa lays back, grabbing Musumeci's foot and fishing for a toe hold, but he's in a poor position to finish the maneuver. Letting the hold go, Sousa scrambles and Musumeci cinches in the calf slicer he's been holding onto, forcing Sousa to tap out just past the three-minute mark of the match.

With the win, Mikey Musumeci avenges the last loss of his career while simultaneously keeping his 'O' intact under the ONE Championship banner. 'Darth Rigatoni' is now 7-0 in ONE. He's also $50,000 richer, earning a bonus from ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

During his post-fight interview with Mitch Chilson, Musumeci was thankful for the bonus but clarified that this match wasn't about the money. It was about redemption and quieting the critics who said he'd never beat a grappler from a higher weight class.

Next, Musumeci will look forward to ONE 168 on September 6 when he heads to Denver, Colorado for a massive submission grappling match with Kade Ruotolo.
