ONE 168: Stamp breaks down keys to victory in Alyse Anderson vs. Victoria Souza's pivotal atomweight MMA tiff
Stamp may be inactive currently, but that doesn't mean she is neglecting the rest of her division.
ONE Championship's women's atomweight division has seen a lot of change in recent years, and another pivotal match-up is just around the corner.
The world champion was set to return at ONE 167 and ONE 168 for two huge main events until an injury forced her to withdraw from both. Whilst she works her way back to full fitness, the show must go on, and a pair of atomweight contenders are on deck for September 6.
At the Ball Arena in Denver, Alyse Anderson will look to finally get her win on US soil when she faces Brazil's Victoria Souza. Anderson came up short last time in Colorado, where she faced Stamp at ONE Fight Night 10 last year.
She now hopes to bounce back from this by halting the momentum of Souza who secured a big win over Itsuki Hirata last time out.
In a recent interview with ONE Championship, the Thai superstar gave her take on how this one will play out:
"I think Alyse has advantages in strength and speed. Victoria is really good at grappling. I think those are their main strengths."
Stamp has big plans once she returns
After winning the vacant title at ONE Fight Night 14 last year, Stamp was set to defend her atomweight crown for the first time earlier this year. The goal was always to become a three-sport world champion, but after doing that, she had no plans of letting the gold leave her side.
With contenders like Alyse Anderson and Victoria Souza continuing to stay active in her absence, the champ is sure to be busy when she returns, but that suits the elite striker.
Though she has one eye on the strawweight belt after the originally planned main event for September 6 at the Ball Arena, returning to atomweight is also a major focus for Stamp.
