ONE Championship Group President Hua Fung Teh surprised Stamp and Rodtang received biggest applause in the company’s first U.S. event
ONE Championship Group President Hua Fung Teh expected American fans to cheer the loudest for their own. But what he witnessed at ONE Fight Night 10 last year in Denver, Colorado came completely out of left field.
In a recent guest appearance on the SBJ-Presents Podcast, Teh said he was surprised that ONE women’s atomweight MMA world champion Stamp Fairtex and ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion ‘The Iron Man’ Rodtang Jitmuangnon received the most adulation from the American crowd inside 1stBank Center that evening in May 2023.
Teh added that even though American legend and ONE flyweight MMA world champion Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson headlined the card opposite Adriano Moraes in a highly anticipated trilogy match, the loudest applause came for two fighters who were making their debut on U.S. soil.
Teh said:
“I'll tell you what, we're actually surprised by the reception we've received in the U.S. I was at the first Denver event, I was blown away. Not just by the fights, obviously, but I found that the crowd was actually very educated about our fighters.”
He continued:
“Our fighters just don't come from America, they come from all over the world. You know, that night, even though Demetrious Johnson, the great DJ, was fighting, the loudest cheers from my memory were actually for some of our fighters from Thailand, Rodtang and Stamp, who are big names today on our roster.”
Rodtang successfully retained his flyweight Muay Thai gold with a second-round knockout of Mexican star Edgar Tabares in the card’s co-main event.
Stamp, meanwhile, stopped American fighter Alyse Anderson earlier in the card with an explosive kick to the liver in the second round of their matchup.
Given the success of ONE Fight Night 10, ONE Championship is expected to put on an even bigger show this Friday, Sept. 6, when it heads to Denver’s Ball Arena for ONE 168.
