Sharaputdin Magomedov lauds Khabib Nurmagomedov as a pioneer for a generation of Dagestani fighters
Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov's legacy extends far beyond his athletic achievements. 'The Eagle's' career inadvertently played out in such a way that he ended up being the leader of a new generation of fighters from the Russian state, many of whom are making the transition to MMA.
In many ways, the success that Dagestani fighters enjoy today can be traced back to Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is largely responsible for paving the way, both with his success inside the octagon, as well as his conduct outside of it.
Needless to say, several aspiring athletes from the region look up to Nurmagomedov, and Sharaputdin Magomedov is no different. Speaking in the aforementioned interview with Red Corner MMA, he stated:
"Khabib was paving the way in the dark on his own as if he had a lamp in his hand and we were just watching him trailblaze that path in America. Of course, each of us had a dream to make it there too. So did I."
