ONE Fight Night 24: Jarred Brooks says having the right mindset and team helped him "grow" as a fighter
Jarred Brooks recently talked about how "individual work" helped him grow as a fighter.
At ONE Fight Night 24, Brooks has an opportunity to regain ONE gold when he faces Gustavo Balart for the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title.
'The Monkey God' has endured a long combat sports journey before Friday's main event, where he's overcome adversity and continued evolving as a fighter.
During an interview with ONE, Brooks discussed several aspects of how he's become a world-class strawweight MMA fighter. The 31-year-old American superstar had this to say about needing to work individually to prepare for fights while also consulting with a high-level team:
"I go and I study guys all day and then I'm just like, yep, look at this, look at this, look at this. We need to do this. But I still listen to my coaches. They go in and do video work as well."
Jarred Brooks followed up by saying:
"But individual work is the biggest key, and if you have the right team surrounding you and not you being in a team necessarily, then you'll grow as a martial artist, in my personal opinion."
ONE Fight Night 24 goes down inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The August 2 event headlined by Jarred Brooks vs. Gustavo Balart can be seen live and for free by North American and Canadian viewers with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Jarred Brooks is only fighter eligible to win gold in ONE Fight Night 24 main event
Earlier today, the ONE Fight Night 24 weigh-ins and hydration tests took place to make Friday's fighters eligible.
Gustavo Balart, who's featured in the interim strawweight MMA world title main event, successfully made weight. Unfortunately, he couldn't pass the hydration test, making him ineligible to win ONE gold.
Therefore, ONE Fight Night 24 could be the second consecutive Amazon Prime Video event where the main event winner is ineligible for an interim world title. At ONE Fight Night 23, Alibeg Rasulov defeated Ok Rae Yoon but suffered a similar fate as Balart by making weight and failing the hydration test.
It should be noted that Jarred Brooks passed both evaluations, so he has an opportunity to secure ONE gold later this week.
