ONE Fight Night 24: Mayssa Bastos points out the two factors that led to her stunning win over Danielle Kelly

Mayssa Bastos reflected on her ability to "stay aggressive" during her submission grappling match against Danielle Kelly.

At ONE Fight Night 24, Bastos made history by becoming the second world champion in ONE women's atomweight submission grappling history. The Brazilian superstar endured a 10-round match against Kelly and secured a unanimous decision by attempting more submissions.

Following her impressive performance, Bastos joined the media for a post-fight press conference. The nine-time IBJJF world champion had this to say about continuing to look for submission during her match with Kelly:

"I am always very confident with my preparations, staying ready. Of course, I was trying for the submission, and this time I was not able to get it. But I was trying to stay aggressive and hunt for that submission."

ONE Fight Night 24 went down inside the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The Aug. 3 event featuring Danielle Kelly vs. Mayssa Bastos in the co-main event can be rewatched by North American and Canadian viewers with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.

Does Danielle Kelly deserve an immediate rematch against Mayssa Bastos?

Before facing Mayssa Bastos, Danielle Kelly held a promotional record of 3-1. Kelly's latest win was against Jessa Khan in September 2023 for the inaugural ONE women's atomweight submission grappling world title.

Typically, a former world champion wouldn't receive an immediate rematch unless they had multiple title defenses. With that said, some fans believe Kelly deserved to get her hand raised at ONE Fight Night 24, making a second bout against Bastos more intriguing.

Furthermore, Kelly vs. Bastos was arguably the most entertaining female submission grappling match in promotional history. Therefore, fans probably wouldn't argue with seeing the world-class jiu-jitsu practitioners meet in the ring again later this year.

Bastos vs. Kelly 2 would also provide other fighters with an opportunity to prove they deserve a title shot. The only contender to separate herself from the rest is Tammi Musumeci, who's fought at strawweight during her 2-0 promotional run.
