Oscar De La Hoya heaps praise on former foe Floyd Mayweather, says young boxers should "emulate exactly" what 'Money' did

Oscar De La Hoya recently lavished praise on his former foe Floyd Mayweather for his incredible career, which saw him retire with an undefeated record.

'Money' was regarded as one of the greatest fighters of his generation for his stellar boxing record and performances. Throughout his career, Mayweather became known for his high boxing IQ in that he would go through an entire fight without absorbing many significant strikes, which allowed him to have the longevity that he did.

During his appearance on former Super Bowl winner Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay, 'The Golden Boy' lamented praise on the unbeaten boxing legend's work ethic. De La Hoya mentioned that Mayweather dedicated himself to becoming the best boxer possible and believes others should consider emulating in order to achieve success. He said:

"[Mayweather's] a professional. He knows how to stay lean and stay active and always in the gym. And fighters and kids who want to become champions should emulate exactly what Floyd did inside the ring and inside the gym...What makes him unique is obviously his boxing ability but his ring generalship is what does it for me. He knows how to pick his spots...how to get you tired without even throwing punches, it's crazy."

Oscar De La Hoya praises Floyd Mayweather for embracing villain role

Oscar De La Hoya also praised Floyd Mayweather for embracing the role of a villain every time he stepped in the ring.

During the aforementioned appearance, De La Hoya mentioned that Mayweather did an excellent job to generate a significant amount of money for himself because fans tuned in to see him lose. He said:

"Floyd [Mayweather] was built to be the villain...And in the movie, you need the hero and the villain, and Floyd was the perfect villain, you know, people loved to hate him. And guess what, he made a whole career about it and he's one of the greatest...All of people tuned in to watch him lose but a lot of people also tuned in to watch greatness."
