Panpayak calls for trilogy against Superlek after ‘close fight’ in last meeting: “I think I won”

Multi-time Muay Thai world champion Panpayak Jitmuangnon thinks it's time for a trilogy fight with Superlek Kiatmoo9.

Before 'The Kicking Machine' became a two-sport ONE world champion, claiming both the ONE flyweight kickboxing and bantamweight Muay Thai titles, he competed in a pair of highly entertaining showdowns with Panpayak.

While Superlek came out on top in their first meeting via unanimous decision, their second scrap was much closer with Panpayak coming up short on two of the three judge's scorecards.

Still believing he did enough to see his hand raised at ONE 164, Panpayak believes now is the perfect time for the two Thai warriors to complete their trilogy.

Speaking to South China Morning Post, Panpayak said:

“It was a close fight. I think I won but it depends how you see the fight. We have to have a rematch.”

While 'The Kicking Machine' is 2-0 against his countryman under the ONE Championship banner, Panpayak currently leads the series, having won four of their seven matchups over the last 10 years.

Who's next for Superlek?

Now holding two world championships in two different sports and weight brackets, there are a plethora of options for Superlek's next opponent.

Undoubtedly, one of the most exciting options is a rematch with ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon. 'The Kicking Machine' secured a sensational victory over 'The Iron Man' at ONE Friday Fights 34 in September 2023—a bout dubbed the best Muay Thai fight of the last 50 years.

Speaking on the topic during the ONE 168: Denver post-fight press conference, ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong said:

"It is possible that we will do Rodtang versus Superlek II in the US. It's very possible. Haven't thought about it, but is it a possibility? Yes. That fight is a huge fight, a global fight."

Superlek could also find himself tasked with taking on Scottish standout Nico Carrillo who has more than proved himself deserving of a title opportunity following impressive finishes against Nong-O Hama and Saemapetch Fairtex.
