Despite being one of the most appreciated and loved people for his environmental work, Rosolie admitted to still suffering resentment from people due to the company of men he keeps. In the podcast episode, Rosolie told the story of how he lost a life-changing book deal due to his ties with Elon Musk, saying:

"I was thinking I was gonna get a life-changing amount of money. I was thinking I was gonna get a million-dollar book deal. And that got confirmed through a bunch of avenue that it was a big one."

He added:

"And then that week Elon tweeted, 'Cool treehouse'. Now, when the greatest inventor of your generation tweets on anything you did, you share it. So I shared it. The publisher got back and went, 'Not only are we even...We're just not making an offer anymore.' They don't like the type of people I associate with."

Joe Rogan explains to Paul Rosolie why Elon Musk receives online hate

Rosolie admitted to having been surprised that people "hate" Elon Musk, despite being "the greatest inventor" of this generation, as he put it. Rogan then explained how the online backlash against Musk started.

Joe Rogan said (2:50:26):

"Well, it's a lot of propaganda that really works. And a lot of it happened when he [Musk] took over Twitter [X]. So you have to look at it from, like, what really happened. Was there real outrage when he took over Twitter? Yes, it was real outrage. I firmly believe there's manufactured outrage that's done in a very directed manner. And I think he was most certainly a victim of that as well."

Joe Rogan then explained how Elon Musk advocated for freedom of speech, which meant allowing controversial content on X. This also allowed him to expose alleged government scandals, which made him a target of many political groups trying to smear his image online.
