Paulo Costa reacts to Khamzat Chimaev’s "lucky" UFC 308 win over Robert Whittaker, says he's over their matchup

Paulo Costa recently reacted to Khamzat Chimaev's latest first-round submission win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 308 and didn't appear to be too impressed. The two still have a personal animosity as their scheduled clash fell through last year after 'Borrachinha' was forced to withdraw and was never rescheduled.

Chimaev had a dominant performance against the former middleweight champion as he smothered him with his relentless pressure and takedowns. He then submitted Whittaker with a face crank that caused damage to his jaw and forced him to submit immediately.

'Borrachinha' took to his X account to sound off on 'Borz' being ranked No.3 and said that he has no interest in pursuing a rematch because he knows their paths will eventually cross in the octagon. Costa was skeptical about the face crank being the reason for Whittaker's injured jaw and mentioned that he believes he injured it before the submission attempt:

"I won't ask UFC to feed me with this disconcerted goat depraver anymore, this gonna happen anyway, and I will receive him on my lap graciously. He was lucky enough that Rob [Whittaker] broke his jaw before he submitted. [Rob's jaw wasn't broke by squeezing] only nonsense thought this way."

Paulo Costa requests ranked middleweight for his next bout

In addition to sounding off on Khamzat Chimaev's win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 308, Paulo Costa shifted his attention to the updated middleweight rankings that saw him drop to No.11. On the other hand, 'Borz' surged 10 spots to No.3 as a result of the win bringing him into the title picture.

In the aforementioned post, Costa directed a message to the UFC brass and requested a bout with a ranked opponent as well as seeking suggestions from his fans:

"I make myself available to the @ufc business team. Mr. Dana [White], Mr. Campbell as well as Mr. Mick [Maynard] to fight anyone from this list by February. And you, tell me who you want to see? Let me know"
