"People cannot make an informed vote" - Elon Musk stresses that U.S. democracy hinges on free speech during Joe Rogan Experience appearance
Joe Rogan has never been known to shy away from sharing his opinion on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. The UFC commentator recently hosted Elon Musk, where the two discussed freedom of speech in the United States among other matters.
Speaking to the Tesla CEO on episode #2223 of JRE, Rogan claimed that the guest's 2022 purchase of X (formerly Twitter) will serve as a pivotal moment, leading Musk to respond:
"Yeah, well, I mean, at the time I said, look, I think this is existential to the United States. It's existential to democracy. Because if you don't have freedom of speech, you don't have democracy. Okay, because if you don't have freedom of speech, people cannot make an informed vote."
Musk continued:
"If they're just being fed propaganda and there's no freedom of speech, democracy is an illusion. So, freedom of speech is the bedrock of democracy. That's why freedom of speech is the first amendment. Once you lose freedom of speech, you lose democracy. Game over. That's why I bought Twitter."

While Musk has labeled himself as a champion of freedom of speech, he has faced criticism for banning accounts on X since taking over. Additionally, the First Amendment in the United States, which protects citizens from legal prosecution for their speech, can not be repealed.
Joe Rogan endorses Donald Trump on the eve of the presidential election
Joe Rogan released a surprise podcast with Elon Musk on the eve of the United States presidential elections, sharing the nearly three-hour episode on Monday. He also shared the clip to his official X account, while adding that he would be officially endorsing Donald Trump in Tuesday's election.
The UFC commentator captioned his post sharing the latest episode of JRE:
"The great and powerful @elonmusk . If it wasn't for him we'd be fu*ked. He makes what I think is the most compelling case for Trump you'll hear, and I agree with him every step of the way. For the record, yes, that's an endorsement of Trump. Enjoy the podcast."
