Photo: When Sean O'Malley looked totally unrecognizable after shaving his eyebrows for $50
Bantamweight contender Sean O'Malley once shared an image of himself without eyebrows back before he became a UFC star. In the post, 'Sugar' explained that he shaved them off because he needed $50 dollars:
"No eyebrows, what would you do for $50?"
O'Malley won't have to shave his eyebrows for some time, however, after earning his biggest payday yet at UFC 280 last weekend. The 28-year-old fought former bantamweight champ Petr Yan and the pair went to war in a razor-close bout that was later awarded the Fight of the Night bonus.
According to a report by TOTAL, 'Sugar' took home over $465,000 after his split-decision victory over 'No Mercy'. In comparison, his Russian opponent earned $270,000.
In this week's UFC rankings, O'Malley shot up 10 places in the division. As the new No.1-ranked bantamweight, 'Sugar' could earn an even bigger payday if he faces the champ Aljamain Sterling.
Sean O'Malley hits back at critics who claim a five-round fight would have benefitted Petr Yan
Sean O'Malley has stated that the third-round of his epic clash with Petr Yan was his best round of the fight, after being criticized following his split-decision victory.
O'Malley was awarded the win after the three judges scored the bout 29-28, 28-29, 29-28, in favor of 'Sugar'. The result has been deemed controversial by the MMA community, with some suggesting Yan won every round.
'No Mercy' is routinely known for starting fights slowly and taking time to figure out his opponents. The general consensus by some is that if the bout had been scheduled for five rounds, Yan would have cruised towards victory.
On the latest episode of the BROMALLEY podcast, Sean O'Malley broke down the fight. The 28-year-old stated that the third-round was an indication that he was getting better as the fight went on, not Petr Yan:
"They were like, 'Sean's lucky it's not five rounds.' It's like, well, my best round was my third round. So, let's run it down. I finally got to re-watch it... Round one, I thought it was a close round. Definitely, I did more damage. He got a couple of takedowns, didn't really do anything with the takedowns... Round two was even pretty close. I cracked him, he cracked me back. I could see how you give him the round though, for sure... Then, round three was definitely my best round. For sure did way more damage."
