Holloway moved up to the 155-pound division to fight Justin Gaethje, delivering one of the most iconic moments in UFC history by knocking out Gaethje in the final seconds to become the BMF champion at UFC 300. After that, he returned to featherweight to challenge Ilia Topuria for the title at UFC 308, where he suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Max Holloway announces his permanent move to the lightweight division

Max Holloway, who waited over two and a half years to get a featherweight title shot after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 276, finally had the opportunity to reclaim the 145-pound belt against Ilia Topuria. However, Holloway suffered a loss, and now, to get back into the title picture, he will have to wait even longer.

On his YouTube channel, following the loss to Topuria, Holloway announced that he wants to move to 155 pounds permanently. ‘Blessed’ said:

“I can honestly say, I think I’m done at 145. Ya boy is, like I said, getting older. I’m 33. No excuses. This cut was easy. Shoutout to my wife, she made this cut easy. It takes a toll cutting weight, period. Whatever weight you are. Like I said, I had to give up ramen to make 145. I’m done with that. I don’t ever want to give up ramen again. 155, here we come. 155 is where I’m going to stay.”
