Joe Rogan and Mark Zuckerberg talk about how jiu-jitsu changes people
In 2022, Mark Zuckerberg raised eyebrows when he revealed that he's started training in MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, developing a deep love for combat sports. In May 2023, he competed in his first jiu-jitsu tournament and won gold and silver medals in gi and no-gi, respectively.
Zuckerberg admitted that training in jiu-jitsu and MMA changed his life and much of his perspective on things - that the art form didn't just improve him physically, but more importantly, emotionally and mentally as well.
Zuckerberg and Joe Rogan talked about jiu-jitsu master and "legitimate genius" John Danaher and how his obsession with martial arts is changing how people see athletes and practitioners of combat sports. Rogan said:
"I'm happy there's someone like that out there because when people have these ideas of what martial arts are and then you see a guy like that and you're like, 'Okay, why, I might have to rethink this.' What it has done in terms of, well, a lot of people said - and I have too - like, 'Nothing turns you into a libertarian quicker than jiu-jitsu.'"
The UFC commentator continued:
"I don't know why that is. I think it's the hard work thing. It's the cutting out all the bullsh*t and realizing how much of the things that we take as real things are just excuses and bullsh*t and weakness."
