Piers Morgan reacts after his prediction for Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury goes utterly wrong

Piers Morgan's prediction for the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch proved to be absolutely wrong. Morgan subsequently reacted to the same, in addition to giving his assessment of the judges' scorecards.

Their first fight transpired at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in May 2024. The undefeated Ukrainian almost knocked 'The Gypsy King' out en route to a split decision victory, thereby becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion. It marked Fury's first professional boxing defeat. Usyk later vacated the IBF belt and went from being the undisputed champion to a unified champion.

An immediate rematch ensued, which went down at the same venue on Dec. 21, 2024. Usyk defended his unified heavyweight title -- including the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine heavyweight titles -- with a unanimous decision win over Fury.

Piers Morgan, who's considered a prominent British media personality and journalist, is no stranger to chiming in with his takes on the latest happenings in the combat sports realm. On the eve of the rematch, the 59-year-old predicted that Tyson Fury would likely KO Oleksandr Usyk. Morgan's tweet read as follows:

"I think Fury's going to knock out Usyk tonight."

Judges Gerardo Martinez, Patrick Morley, and Ignacio Robles all scored the rematch 116-112, a unanimous decision for Usyk. Even the AI judge, which didn't impact the fight's official verdict, scored it in favor of the Ukrainian.

Piers Morgan put forth another tweet after Fury's unanimous decision defeat against Usyk. Akin to certain sections of the combat sports community, he indicated that the fight was closer than what the judges' scorecards suggested. Responding to a tweet congratulating Usyk, Morgan praised him and wrote:

"It was closer than the scoring suggests, but Usyk deserved the win. He's so strong."

Piers Morgan showered praise on Oleksandr Usyk after his first fight with Tyson Fury

Piers Morgan also notably chimed in on the first fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. Showering praise on the legendary Ukrainian pugilist, the veteran British television personality alluded to how he'd gotten progressively stronger against Fury.

Tweeting photographs from the matchup, Morgan wrote:

"BREAKING: Usyk wins. Deservedly so. He was an absolute warrior as the fight went on. Great fight."

After both his fights against Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury seemed to suggest that he disagreed with the judges handing 'The Cat' the victory on points. Meanwhile, Usyk implied the scoring was fair. It's unclear as to whom Fury would fight next.

Moreover, Usyk appears likely to face the winner of the IBF heavyweight title fight between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker which takes place on Feb. 22, 2025.
